Wow what a weekend!
Third league title in a row and two seasons undefeated!! I am incredibly proud to be part of this team and the fight and determination we showed this weekend.
The pressure was really on us this weekend…everyone wanted to beat Surbiton! First up we had Holcombe in the semi-final and we knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game. With a huge number of internationals in their side they started much better than us and come half time we knew we needed to be playing better. Thanks to a short corner strike from Giselle Ansley and an excellent reverse shot from Olivia Chilton we managed a 2-0 win and were into the final on Sunday.
Canterbury won their semi-final against Birmingham University convincingly 6-0 and for the third consecutive year it was a Surbiton/Canterbury final. It was a really closely fought game with chances coming at both ends and when the final whistle went it was shuffles time! Thankfully we’d done a lot of practice in training and with Abi Walker (our GK) in fine form Hollie Webb converted her shuffle for us to win!!
I really do believe the strength in depth is what makes our team so special. Throughout the season 26 players have played for our first team (including a number of juniors) and regularly the internationals have been unavailable to play. We are now on to our next challenge as are off to Holland for the European Club Championships in May and want to put our stamp in Europe!
I’d like to say a massive thank you to all the support this weekend, the Surbiton Barmy Army were brilliant as usual and it was great to see so many of the club down at Lee Valley supporting us.
