I am absolutely over the moon to have been selected for the GB women’s hockey team competing at the Rio Olympics.
It really was a nerve-wrecking time leading up to selection. With a squad of 31 girls and only 16 plus 3 reserves getting the call up it was very competitive for places. On Tuesday we had our media announcement of both the men and women’s squads heading out to Rio and it was great to see so much interest in our teams.
We then had the even more exciting occasion of ‘kitting out’ day at the NEC arena in Birmingham. Having experienced this pre-London I knew this was going to be a pretty special day. Having arrived we were taken to the lounge area where there was plenty of things to do to keep us entertained. When we were called up we each had a personal shopper and we went from room to room trying on all the different clothes and picking our sizes. There is an incredible amount of kit as once out there we wear nothing but the Team GB kit.
We’ve now got a couple of weeks of training with a couple of practice matches before we fly out on the 27th July. All very exciting times and I can’t wait!!
